White clay pipes

Archive Notes:

Text and photos describing manufacture of clay pipes at the Red Lion (now the New Club). White clay quarried at Shotover. Also paper on Gypsum.

The number of clay pipes dug up in the gardens of Wheatley suggest that they were readily available and fairly cheap to buy. They were made at the Old Red Lion, now the New Club. White clay could be found on Shotover. It meant that supplies were easy to obtain.
