W.I. in 1923 and 1924.

1923 fete in June 1923 in gardens of Shotover House. Mrs Miller was president. Included a short play ‘Will o’ the Wisp’ arranged by Miss Counsel; two short dramatic sketches by Madame Vantini; and two performances of a minuet by Wheatley children. There were also a decorative perambulator parade, a flight of balloons, a tennis tournament, clock golf, bowling, hoop-la and many stalls. More details in the image.

Mrs Miller was president of the W.I. in 1924 when it put on a musical programme by Miss Munt and Mr Long (vocalists), Mr Hinton (violin) and Mr Brandum. Mrs C Shorter recited. Mrs Fowler is also mentioned. Also that year (from Wheatley News April/May 2024), Wheatley WI took part in the 'grand exhibition held in Oxford, enterring many of the classes, and also serving refreshments. Wheatley appeared to have gained quite a number of certificates which were presented at the May meeting. The outing this year was to the Wembley Exhibition. At one of its meetings, a collection of 197 eggs was made for Wingfield Hospital.
