Alfred Thomas Smith

Biography:

He was baptised Alfred Thomas Smith at Wheatley Church on 1 August 1886 having been born in Wheatley, son of John/George Smith, agricultural labourer, and Annie nee Currell of Littleworth, both also born in Wheatley. In 1891 they lived at Cumberland Lodge, Cowley Road, Oxford, the father's name being given as John; in 1901 and 1911 the father is listed as George and the family are in Littleworth. In 1901 Thomas is a market gardener and so also in 1911 and residing with the family in Littleworth. In the latter year Thomas married Ellen Florence Woodley. The Roll of Honour carried in the Oxford Times of 26 September 1914 has Thomas Smith for the Royal Field Artillery: the Medal Rolls Index Cards confirm the RFA and his rank as Gunner, with Regimental No. L/6478; another number in the name Alfred T. Smith is 43611. He and Ellen were recorded in the Electoral Register of 1921 as living in Littleworth.

He lived at Littleworth, probably No. 22.
