Wilfrid Sheldon's memories as shown in the Merry Bells centenary book 1888-1988.

His reference to smallpox in 1904 may be one year out as there were vary similar circumstances in 1903 as reported in the Oxford Journal on 25 April that year. Dr Coles, rhe medical officer, Dr Barns and Mr Stanley were involved and the un-named man was isolated at The Chequers. The report suggested that this was an isolated case.
