Archive Notes:

Four photographs of the old house known as Gardencroft, 5 Roman Road. There is a building at this location on the 1813 Enclosure Award map, suggesting that this house was built before then.

For many years this was the last building on the road to the east of Wheatley. The 19C censuses show three families living here and there is still evidence of this in the surviving three 'front' doors.

Listing details state 'House. Late C17/early C18. Limestone rubble and timber lintels; plain-tile roof and brick gable stacks. L-plan. 2 storeys. Front has a pair of plank doors in the angle of the ranges and a further door with old tiled canopy in the 2-window front to right. Casements of 2 and 3 lights, with some old leaded lights. Interior not inspected'.

The history of the building was reported upon in 2018 by Oxfordshire Buildings Records, whose report is copyright.
