Archive Notes:

Information from Mrs Megan Surman (neé Hinton). Info on numbers 1,3,5,7,9 & 11 Kiln Lane and who lived there. Also two photos taken in the 1980s.

Kiln Lane was developed for the workers of the brick business during the 1880's and 1890's, and Westfield Road was developed during the early part of the twentieth century. Most of the properties are wholly, or largely, made from local bricks, and probably built by Cullum's. However, it is interesting to see the combination of brick and stone as used in 1 Kiln Lane, 6 Westfield Road, 9 Westfield Road and 11 Westfield Road, which is integrated with Old House, built in the late 18th century, see 776.

The location of the Allen's milk round is shown in record 0754
