Stile Cottage

  • Joseph Lovridge on jug
Archive Notes:

Also write-up from the deeds of Stile Cottage, 8 Farm Close Lane, abstracted from deeds in the possession of Mr and Mrs Jensen.

A second report, written in August 2021, considers all the issues afresh.

The archive has a record, see 1705, which states that Stile Cottage was owned by Rosie Jeffs' grandmother, Mrs Parsons (who had bought the cottage in 1907) who sold sweets etc and pig portions from her front room. This may or may not have been the building which juts out into Farm Close Lane which, at the time of the grandmother's ownership belonged to the property on the opposite side of the lane, which was not then an intergated part of the cottage.

There is a photo sent to us by a collector of an 1811 jug bearing the image of a previous owner, Joseph Lovridge. (Lovridge is how this name is shown on the jug rather than Loveridge)
