Archive Notes:

John Clayton (1847-1932) kept his bakery here, probably from 1886 when he was already described as a baker, but he is the street directory for 1895, 1899, 1911 and 1920. In I885, the time of his first marriage, he was a butler living In Holton and his wife was Ann, daughter of John Cooper, baker. Clayton was succeeded by W G Hyde (first shown in 1920 Kelly Directory, who kept on the business until it was taken over as a grocer's by Mr Hawes followed by Clarke, a greengrocer and florist. The current use until 2021 was a pharmacy, but this then moved to adjacent to the surgery at Morland House. In 2022, this shop trades in retro antiques as Barnes and Bridge.
