Newholme, 105 High Street
PDF Files:
Archive Notes:
The house was built about 1720 with the upper storey added later. Built of rubble and brick house, unusual in standing well back from the road and having a front garden. It is also raised considerably from the street level. This was almost certainly so as to avoid the very hard bedrock having to be excavated particularly as the house was set back so far back. The bedrock is known (from a photo taken from the rear of 107 High Street, see record 1200) to having risen steeply as the land rises to the north, away from the road. Also list of owners/residents
